As Mark Sandberg's wholesale candy and tobacco business was phased out in the 1980s, he decided to follow his passion for motor sports. He loved racing cars, motorcycles, boats and snowmobiles through the 80s. The side business, Valley Motor Sports, now became his official main business in 1989.
Today Sandberg employs three others. Eric, the shop foreman and head mechanic, has the most longevity - over 16 years. His daughter, Jean, has been working for her dad for 15 years as office and parts manager. And Mike, the head engine builder and newest employee has been with Valley for 8 years.
The number one business at Valley Motor Sports (VMS) is boats – runabouts, cruisers, fishing and high-performance. They do anything and everything from regular maintenance, re-powers and upgrades, to winterizing, storage and shrink-wrapping when the season comes to an end. VMS is a certified Mercury/Mercruiser dealer and carries a wide variety of parts for all makes and models in stock. Their main focus is to do everything right the first time, with friendly and fast service. The season is short and there are so few sunny weekends. Valley Motor Sports recognizes that and they do their best to get everyone back on the water as soon as possible.
In the off season winter projects get started. There are lots of engine rebuilds and upgrades to do so that they’re ready when summer arrives.
VMS services and repairs all makes and models of snowmobiles in the winter. They are also dealers for Boss and Western snowplows, with a full line of parts and accessories and 24- hour service when needed.
